Painting & Decorating with EcoBuild Contractors

A good paint job is mostly decided before the tin is opened. As painters and decorators, we fill cracks and holes, sand back flaky or glossy surfaces, repair blown or damaged plaster and seal stains, so the colour goes onto a sound, even surface. The result is a finish without ridges, patches showing through or edges that start lifting a few months later.

We work for homeowners redecorating a room or the whole house, for landlords getting a property ready between tenancies, and for property management companies who need units turned around and brought back to a lettable standard. Inside, that covers walls, ceilings, woodwork, doors and radiators. Outside, it covers masonry, render, fascias, window frames and doors, weather permitting.

Because we also treat mould and damp, we can deal with the problem walls many decorators avoid. Where mould has appeared, the cause is investigated and the growth is killed before anything is painted, and we use anti-mould paints and specialist coatings in bathrooms, kitchens and other rooms that see a lot of moisture. Furniture and floors are covered, and every room is left clean at the end of each day.

What we do

Painting and decorating work we carry out

Interior painting and decorating

Walls, ceilings, skirting, architraves, doors and radiators painted in the finish that suits each room, from flat matt to hard-wearing eggshell.

Exterior painting

Masonry, render, fascias, soffits, window frames and front doors cleaned, prepared and painted with exterior-grade products.

Wall and ceiling preparation

Loose paint scraped back, surfaces washed down and stains sealed, so the new coats bond properly and old marks do not bleed through.

Minor plaster and surface repairs

Small areas of blown or cracked plaster, damaged corners and holes from old fixings repaired before decorating starts.

Filling, sanding and finishing

Cracks and dents filled, sanded flush and spot-primed, so the finished wall reads as one smooth, even surface.

Anti-mould painting and specialist coatings

Mould-resistant paint systems for bathrooms, kitchens and cold rooms, applied only after the growth is treated and the surface is dry.

Full property redecoration

Every room in a house or flat repainted in one planned job, with the order of work arranged around whether the property is lived in or empty.

Landlord and end-of-tenancy work

Checkout repairs, scuffed walls and marked woodwork put right between tenancies so the property is ready to show again.

Why it is worth it

Benefits of painting & decorating

A finish that lasts

Thorough preparation stops paint flaking, cracking or showing old repairs, so the work does not need redoing after a year.

Repairs and paint from one team

Plaster patches, filling and decorating are done by the same people, with no waiting for a second trade to turn up.

Mould dealt with properly

Problem walls are treated and coated with suitable products instead of being painted over and left to spot again.

Planned around tenancies

Landlords and managing agents get work scheduled into the gap between tenants, keeping empty periods as short as possible.

Why preparation matters more than the paint

Expensive paint cannot hide a poor surface. Fresh emulsion over a glossy or chalky wall can peel within months, filler that is not sanded flush shows as a raised patch under side light, and water or nicotine stains bleed through coat after coat unless they are sealed with a stain-blocking primer first.

Our quotes list the preparation for each area alongside the painting, so you can see where the time is going. On older walls, small plaster repairs are often the difference between a finish that looks professional and one that only looks freshly painted.

Decorator painting an interior wall with a roller

Redecorating between tenancies

Landlords and property management companies usually need two things from a decorator: a fast turnaround and a finish that stands up to the next tenancy. We can work from a checkout report, put right scuffs, fixing holes and marked woodwork, and use durable, washable finishes in hallways, kitchens and bathrooms.

If the checkout notes mention mould, we investigate the cause before redecorating, because repainting over it will only repeat the problem with the next tenant. For portfolios and managed blocks, we can plan work across several units so each is ready to let again as soon as possible.

FAQ

Painting & Decorating questions

Do I need to move furniture before you start?

Smaller items, ornaments and anything fragile are best moved out beforehand. We can shift larger furniture to the middle of the room and cover it, and we protect floors throughout.

Can you paint over mould?

Not until it has been treated. Mould is killed and the surface allowed to dry first, then we use an anti-mould paint system, and where the mould keeps coming back we look at the ventilation or damp causing it.

Can new plaster be painted straight away?

No. Fresh plaster has to dry out fully first, then it needs a thinned mist coat that soaks in and seals the surface before the finishing coats go on.

Can exterior painting be done in winter?

Exterior paint needs dry surfaces and temperatures above the minimum the manufacturer sets, so outside work is weather dependent. We plan exterior jobs for drier spells and move the dates if rain or frost is forecast.

Do you work for letting agents and property managers?

Yes. We decorate for landlords, letting agents and property management companies as well as homeowners, including empty properties between tenancies where access is arranged through the agent.
